Website VS Web App
Website VS Web App

Have you ever wondered what could be the range of projects for Web Developers? As you may already know, we have what we call Websites and I think everyone knows what a website is. But unfortunately, some people still think that everything you access on the internet is a website.
This misunderstanding must be stopped! This goes for both common users and web development beginners’ sake. Not everything is a website; there is also what we call a Web App. Today, we’ll break them down into four (4) categories: Looks, Functionality, Accessibility, and Technology.
1. LOOKS
Website: In a website, you can see typical elements like menus, navigation bars, and content such as blog posts, images, and videos. Buttons may be present, but they are usually limited to simple navigation like ‘Next page’ or ‘Previous.’ These buttons don't necessarily demand data interaction.
Web App: The looks don't fall far from a website, but it requires more complex buttons and text inputs. These elements require data and information from the user. You can easily distinguish them if there are forms present, such as payment forms, subscriptions, or login pages.
2. FUNCTIONALITY
Website: A website doesn’t require much interaction. It is basically a page you scroll through to browse, read, or watch. Great examples are Blogs, Photo Galleries, and Landing Pages.
Web App: It has a lot to offer! From creating your own content to shopping, web apps are interactive. Examples include e-commerce shops, social media, and school portals. Transactions are mainly the core function here; the web app contains various actions to accomplish a goal.
3. ACCESSIBILITY
Website: A website generally does not need a verification process because users do not interact with the content or provide personal data.
Web App: It requires strict authorization as users send and transmit sensitive and personal information. To protect user data, most transactions require you to have authorization or an account before taking specific actions.
4. TECHNOLOGY
Website: HTML, CSS, and sometimes basic JavaScript are the essentials. These static technologies are enough to build a traditional website.
Web App: Web Applications require a complex backend and a database to store user data. They demand more advanced knowledge and are built using various complex technologies to handle data processing.
I hope this is a useful insight for those distinguishing between these two digital platforms. If you have additional thoughts, feel free to let us know!
